Wow what is up with the employees at Steinmart. Nice merchandise, but very very rude employees. Alway the way from the managers down to the cashiers. Makes me want to stop shopping there.

I live in a large suite in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles and have been a "preferred customer" of Steinmart for years shopping at the Palm Springs and Granada Hills stores in California and have always found the employees to be helpful, congenial and professional UNTIL today Sept. 19th, 2012. I sam planning a trip back to N.Y.C. in a few weeks and thought I would pick up a fw things. I also had purchased a pair of trousers a few weeks ago and when I had gotten home I found they had black smudge marks on them as if from a marking pen (price 29.99). They are pleasant slacks for casual wear with a blazer. When I walked in the store in Granada Hills I asked the young man where the return section was as things have been moved around a bit. He pointed to the rear of the store and turned away. He was groomed and dressed as if he had an appointment to go to a children's Birthday party as a clown. When I got to the rear of the store I asked an employee and she said it was the young man by the front door. when I joined the line at the front of the store the woman at the second register summoned me. She said I was a liar and these slacks have been worn. He name is Divina and she said she was the manager. She was rude and spoke with a heavy accent. I don't mind the accent but I am livid at being called a liar. The slacks had been in the plastic bag and I showed her they were not worn or wrinkled. She again insisted I was a liar. If this is the kind of human trash (him and her) that Steinmart now hires, it is truly a shame. I NEVER send this kind if letter. I always send letters to management thanking them for the quality and behavior of their employees. This is the first letter like this that I have mailed in years. I can honestly say that the next time I visit that store if that witch and clown are there it will be my last time after years of shopping. I think she would be better suited to cleaning restrooms and sweeping floors as she has the personality of a Tse Tse fly. As you have probably noted I am ANGRY. Dr. Boris Bagdassarroff

I have to agree with others comments. The merchandise is lovely so 2 stars instead of 1. The associates however must be trained to be rude. I've never had a friendly one. The coupons are crazy misleading and inconvenient, making the overall shopping experience more an aggravation than a treat.

I saw your ad in my email and went shopping today. ps I did not get my $10 reward either. I was told that the 80% off ADVERTISED IN THE EMAIL is off of 'department store prices'. THAT'S MISLEADING. The girl didn't want to give me the extra %s off and said I could go home and get the coupons and come back...REALLY? meanwhile the coupon was sitting right beside the register. I was told by the girl on the register that 'there are rules to be followed'. As mentioned in an earlier review, they give it to you if they want to. My sister got the discount one day from a 'nice lady' and the other itchbay one wouldn't give it to my mother on the same visit, same day, same time checkout. I don't need grief to go shopping and I certainly don't need a lecture about 'rules'. Meanwhile the 80 year old man who schlepped the entire page of the paper and was cutting out coupons was told that none of his purchases qualified....................................?????????????

As of today,my rating is one star only. I have been shopping Meyerland & Westheimer stores for YEARS. A faithful, loyal customer. I have no idea what happens to my points and the misdemeanors (yes) of their red dot sales and the staff.I know someone who buys close-out cookies, etc and takes them to the girls. She gets deals if there is some or not. With this lead in to my story, today I went shopping hoping to find something so I could redeem my birthday gift. Message on post card: Thank you for being a preferred customer. In honor of your birthday, we want you to celebrate...Present this card and take 20% off Any One Item. Underneath the 48 point type the 20% off is printed in, there are 9 lines of mouse type that I need a magnifying glass to read the fine print. Call me stupid because I took it at face value. Found a dress I really liked for $29.98 and I haven't bought one in probably 10 years. Quiet day in the store; was able to check right out. Presented the card and was told what I had selected was not covered by the 20% off. The asst manager got involved and said I COULDN'T USE IT. So just as loudly over two registers I yelled back and said this is deceptive advertising. The birthday card states in bold print: 20% off any one item. I was all excited about the dress but I have more than I need and I left the dress on the check out counter. Watch your 20% offs. They are manipulated so the stores still come out ahead. I will also be calling their customer service number tomorrow if I can find a number. Kroger does this kind of stuff too. FALSE & DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING. Let's put a stop to this and KEEP COMPLAINING because nothing happens without being proactive!

tuscaloosa store filthy. what's goin on in there. must be management. all you see is long faces. no customers at all. bathrooms filthy. feces all over the wall.

I love my Stein Marts in Austin Texas, shopping mostly at the one in Westlake for convenience. I have NEVER had anything put politeness and helpfulness while shopping at Stein Mart. Sales Associates will help me put outfits together, direct to a particular item I'm looking for, and are always friendly and helpful. I am always impressed with the cleanliness of the dressing rooms and restrooms and neatness in the store. I was in Memphis this past weekend and stopped at their store to quickly purchase an outfit for the evening as my luggage didn't arrive along with me, and I had a pleasant experience there also.

We shop your store once a year on family trips to Florida and love the store. You do have a store in Massachusetts but quite far from us. Shawsheen Plaza,South Main Street Andover, Ma has a perfect location in a prestigious town. We want you to come nearer.

i am from out of town. shopped tuscaloosa store last week. filthy smelley bathrooms dirty floors no toiletpaper. store not maintained, employees standing around talking. store not busy at all. with ross coming soon watch out stein mart.

I OCCASIONALLY SHOP AT MY LOCAL STEINMART IN HOLMDEL MONMOUTH COUNTY NJ. I ARRIVED AT THE STORE WHEN IT FIRST OPENED. I WENT TO THE LINENS AREA WHERE I FOUND BATH TOWELS THAT WERE $7.99 BUT THE CARDBOARD SALE SIGN IN A PLASTIC STAND STATED $5.99. I GRABBED 5 AND WENT TO THE REGISTER. THEY RANG UP $7.99. THE CASHIER CALLED SOMEONE TO CHECK ON THE PRICE AFTER WAITING A BIT I DECIDED TO GRAB THE SIGN MYSELF AS I APPROACHED THE ARE I SAW A WOMAN EMPLOYEE LEAVING THE AREA I CONTINUED ON TO SEE THE SIGN MISSING OUT OF THE PLASTIC. I WENT UP FRONT AND THE CASHIER SAID THE SALE ENDED YESTERDAY. I STATED WELL THE SIGN WAS STILL UP. SHE DIRECTED ME TO AN EMPLOYEE [THE ONE WHO I SAW TAKING THE SIGN]WHO SAID THE SAME THING. SO I SAID WELL YOU SHOULD HONOR THE PRICE SINCE THE SIGN WAS STILL UP. SHE SAID OH I MEANT TO TAKE THE SIGN DOWN BEFORE I LET YOU IN THE FRONT DOOR . I SAID I WANT A MANAGER LOW AND BEHOLD IT WAS HER [I DID NOT GET HER NAME HOWEVER NOT TO BE RACIST BUT IN AN EFFORT TO ALERT OTHER SHOPPERS SHE AN INDIAN [NOT AMERICAN INDIAN] AND ALWAYS WEARS A SCARF ON HER HEAD ND A SMUG LOOK ON HER FACE.] I SAID WELL IT WAS YOUR FAULT THE SIGN WAS STILL THERE AND YOU ONLY TOOK THE SIGN DOWN BECAUSE YOU WERE TOLD ABOUT IT OTHERWISE IT WOULD STILL BE THERE AND FURTHERMORE IF I HADNT SEEN YOU IN THE AREA YOU WOULD HAVE DENIED IT BEING THERE SINCE IS WAS NO WHERE IN SITE. SHE NEVER APOLOGIZED . SHE WAS RUDE AND ARROGANT AS A I HEARD FROM QUITE A FEW OTHER SHOPPERS THE SAME STORY. I PLAN ON CALLING THE CORPORATE OFFICES. SHE WAS NOT ONLY RUDE AND ARROGANT BUT SHE LOST A SALE AND ANOTHER CUSTOMER SHE IS BAD FOR BUSINESS!!!!!!!

i really like steinmart The peoople there are very friendly and helpful. They have beautiful clothes and someone is always there to help you Steinmart has been around for quite a while now and i hope they will be alot longer

I am an employee and work at Steinmart. I have been at the Southern Pines, NC store for four years now. Before that I was an avid shopper for ten years. My mom and I would frequently go to Steinmart for something pleasant to do. We always found things that were unique and very different from the other stores. It is never boring or difficult to shop there. I had found employees to be helpful and always great us as we walked into Steinmart. Once hired, I was overjoyed to be an employee there. I have never had a better work environment to work in. The other employees always are cheerful, say hi, ask each other how you are doing, and are very supportive of one another. I had surgery last year and they all hugged me when I returned. They continued to ask me how I was feeling for weeks after I returned to work. My mother died 16 months ago and they were all very supportive and loving. My bosses and store manager was also awesome and very kind. I have been very impressed with the supervisors and other employees these four years. And I see the other employees going out of their way to help customers find something. Our bathrooms are always clean and kept up; the managers clean them in the mornings before the store opens. Other employees pick up anything that customers drop on the floor or leave. It also has a deodorant spray on the wall that squirts a fragrance every so often, so the bathroom always smells fresh. I have the best work environment that I have ever had. I love going to work each day, and our merchandise is something to be proud of, and is kept organized and cleaned up....shopable...and interesting.

I am a former employee of Stein Mart and this is the worse company I have ever worked for. I received 2 days of training and was put out on the floor which is fine, but as with any new person questions will arise as you handle new situations. These people were the rudest most miserable people you can ever work with, they ridiculed and yelled at you IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS. Even sometimes raising their voice to the customers. No one will show you how to do anything they would rather LITERALLY YELL at you as if you were a child. WORSE COMPANY to work for. As bad as I needed this job to support my 2 year old daughter, I lasted here about a month and had to walk out. Those people were rude and miserable and as far as im concerned have no business to open a company that deals directly with people.

Compliment first. I love your merchandise. I live in Austin TX where things are very casual or very dressy. Your petite section is wonderful. I am 5 foot tall and a sixe 8 and cant find clothes anywhere but your store...PROBLEM.. I see ads on TV, newspaper, radio, whatever and then go to my local store and am told that doesn't apply here. I found a lovely spring sweater went to purchase and was told it would be on sale as a post card was sent out to everyone with a scatch off. The cashier held the sweater. I never received the postcard. I called each day to see if they were still holding the sweater. Yes they did. No sale though. I heard from the cashier the 3rd day that another sale was coming up with 25% off. Never happened. I heard last night on TV a 50% off sale. Called all 3 local stores each one gave me a different type of sale on different merchandise...this is crazy. Is this a corporation or indivdual run stores with a common name. Each store seems to do their own thing. I am very angry that I didnt get the post card and never was able to find the sale that was ...coming. Please address these issues with your stores.

I received a card with a scratch-off coupon in the mail, which said I would get 20% off one item. When I went to Stein Mart, found a swimsuit that fit (no small task), and tried to use the coupon, the sales associate told me I couldn't use it because I had already scratched it off. She pointed out the extremely small letters under the scratch off area that said it should be done at the store. I asked if she couldn't override the instructions since I hadn't seen them (obviously, or I would have waited), she refused, as did an assistant manager. If I didn't have such a hard time finding swimsuits that fit, I would have left. I probably won't go back. They need to take a lesson from Von Maur associates--they know how to treat customers.

Just back from your store #43 in Charleston. Read in the newspaper about a sale going on and since I need a pair of pants I went and checked it out. When checking out I discovered I forgot the coupon in the paper. Now wouldt you think An old man like me would have been given a break. Cashier #913427700 refused to honor the discount. Not very professional in my opinion, needs customer service training or attitude adjustment. She also upset some lady in front of me, overheard her say she would tear up a special customer card.

Hello, I recently sent a team member who was having issues with an injury to the Steinmart in Brentwood, TN to get an ice pack. I purchased one there a few weeks back, it was cute and there were a few others with other designs still at the store located in the jewelry/ accessory section. She was totally humiliated when she went to the store, and the staff made fun of her. This is no way to treat a customer. I love the merchandise at this store but the staff is snotty! I have also been followed around in this store, which stopped me from going there at lunch to browse around where I would always purchase something. I have resumed going to the TJ Maxx next door. You should train your staff on how to treat people.

tuscaloosa most depresssing store environment of any store i have been in. store not busy at all. employees standing around talking not helping the two customers that are in the store. bathrooms filthy and overflowing. floors dirty. what's happening in that store? is it being closed? merchandise cheap looking. torturing me for opening credit card and magazines. never go back in there. sad sad sad!!!

As a former employee I have to say that I no longer shop or will shop at any Stein Marts due to my feelings of my ex boss. I worked there for a number of years and I love the merchandise and the associates I worked with, for the most part. Some associates had been there for a very long time and those people where some of the most loyal and hardworking individuals that that store had the good fortune to keep on staff. My complaint is on the most pompous store manager I've ever had to deal with. The store manager looks down on the employees, holds the most depressing morning meetings, racially profiles customers and generally made the working enviroment a pure hell while I was there. By the way, I was told that this manager was A LOT worse at an early time. LOL! I chose to leave because working there was so depressing that I could not find anything redeeming about showing up any longer and having to deal with an extremely petty, back bighting, and rather cruel and unhappy individual that this manager is. Sometimes a "professional and educated" person just doesn't have the social skills to help and encourage employees along. It takes more than a degree to know how to work with other people. If anyone is reading this, please reconsider working at the Stein Mart in Johnson City, TN. It is really not worth the personal hell you will go through working with this manager. As for "shooting myself in the foot" and not filing a formal complaint, I realized that nothing was ever going to change while this person was in charge and the only thing I could do was to remove myself from my employment.

I have shopped at Steinmart in Pineville, NC and Bluffton , Sc where I was asked if I wanted to sign up for magazines to which I replied " NO" . I used my debit card to pay for what I purchased and since that time my debit card has been used by Steinmart to debit my bank for magazines I never ordered. the first time I went to my bank and had to go through having my card changed which we did --- I have no idea how this company got the new card number. I have called my bank and will consult an attorney about this illegal practice . This is fraud ---pure and simple . I am appalled and plan to stay away from Steinmart!!!
