Whoever decided that security guards are a good idea for Ross Stores didn't think the plan all the way through. Not only are they not allowed to do anything besides confront people who they know are stealing, but once managers are notified, nothing is done. My girlfriend works at a Ross Store in Sacramento, CA as a security guard. The managers at her store do nothing when they are notified about people stealing and the security is not allowed to stop these people from walking out the door. How does corporate expect this issue to be taken under control when security isn't allowed to do their job. I understand that people are going to steal regardless of security, but for ones that get caught, something should be done about them. Allowing them to walk out of the store knowing that they have unpaid for items on their person is ridiculous. It is also ridiculous that the security camera are so low-tech that images are not clear. The placement of the camera are in a way that the sun hits them and distorts the images. You cannot tell what color the person is or even a good idea of what they look like. It is so irritating to have people employed in these positions (security) when they arn't even doing anything except standing there trying to look intimidating, which they are not. This issue needs to be looked into and changes need to be made...

Well, I used to shop at Ross about once a week on my lunch break, but will no longer. Yesterday (Friday April 6, 2012) I was at the Draper location (Utah) on 123rd S. and was trying on a few sweaters in front of a mirror when a loss prevention guy came up to me and told me I had to stop what I was doing because you could only try things on in the dressing room. I ignored him because I have tried stuff on in front of the many mirrors set up around the store for YEARS and figure this guy must be totally whacked in the head. He then tells me it's because if kids see people trying stuff on, they start to do it. Well, there isn't one kid in the store and this guy is really getting irritating. I hold up a cardigan to clarify and say "so I can't try something like this on in front of a mirror" and he says "you can in the dressing room", and on and on it goes until I give up in exasperation. I figure he must not understand his job at all and tell one of the associates I am on friendly terms with (being a PRIOR long time shopper at that store), and she tells her manager, then comes back and tells me the manager agrees that is their policy! F$%^ Ross. They can kiss my debit card goodbye. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced shopping for clothes in my entire life. I am going to write a letter to their corporate headquarters too, but I doubt they will care since they rely on volume of sales, obviously not caring about a customer or two, or a few hundred (judging from the similar posts on this site).

The one of the Ross store in 799 market street San Francisco CA. All store managers ask employees for money and gifts all the times. If some employees do not give them money and gifts. They will give to them very hard times. They intentionally blames the associates for being to slow and cuts their work hours until either made them afraid to come to work quit job or find another job. Every day come to work with fear. They dissemination also rumors to hurt employee who is not give to them gifts and money. Employees very afraid of to report HR department. Because The managers already made employees against each other and made some employee who do not give them money a bad work perform and let other employees talk about some bad word(thieve, bad person, etc.) behand them. They made the computer can not clock in and can not clock out sometimes(please check March(7,8,9,2012 three days). Then they give more hours to some employees who did not came to work and did give to them money and gifts. It is unfire! They do not follow the Ross's rules. They did the bad things all the times. What the employees can do?

As an ex-employee at "ROSS", I find it so true, regarding what "CA" mentioned. However, I can't believe how racial management is towards employees. And what the hell are policies for, when management can't follow them, why should the associates? It's funny to watch one manager try to stick to rules when another comes along side to undermine the rest. It is so easy for merchandise to be stolen when the company has these so called employees named SPS, should be CMYC (catch me if you can)This type of employee is nothing but a door greater.

If there was a "0" I would definetly use it. I am employed with Ross and its horrible I would never recommend anyone to work at my store. I can't stand how lazy some of the associates they hire treat our customers. The store manager is lazy and really doesn't care about theft in the store, nor does she care about the loyal employees who have been there for 12 -14 yrs. Back to my original topic, I cant stand when they say we cut hours so we only have two cashiers working and our customers have to wait 15 minutes to checkout. It's suppost to be no more than 4 minutes per customer according to mystery shoppers. Managment throws an attitude when associates ask them to help ring. I see the customers faces, I feel their frustration. Of course my manager hates me because i mentioned Ross lives by the "stop drop and ring motto" however the store manager didn't like that i brought that up and she has her own way of punishing me. ive been actively seeking out new opportunities for the simple fact that this particular store is quick to take a customers money, and not deliver a genuine and kind experience for our customers. In return for failing our so called mystery audits, the store manager blames the associates for being to slow and basically cuts your hours until either you quit or find another job. Every day I come to work I fear I might not have a job, but if I can atleast deliver atleast one great customer experience every shift until I my hours are cut to Four a week, I would be happy with that cause atleast someone left the store happy.

My family and i we visit a ross store at least once a week. Today we going to ross store at research blvd and braker ln. And my sister call one of the guy in the front desk to look at one of the wathes and he get mad with her because she thaka a time to look an he start to call us a mexican make waste my time and all that shi@*#%+*@#&% and he start to discriminat us the name of this guy is bill hes at ross store in 4501 W Braker Ln #200  Austin, TX 78759

Normally I love Ross! I am a photographer in the North Carolina area, Fayetteville to be exact. I use their store to purchase my props and never had an issue. Yesterday around 2pm I was waiting in a line ,with my two small children, to purchase my items. The lady in front of me decided to go to a shorter line. When it was my turn to pay the same "Miss Priss" who got out of the line decided she wanted her spot back. I then in turn let her know that I was not letting her have her spot back. She was VERY rude and I kid you not if I did not have my children with me I would have snatched that horrible smirk off her face. The do called security gaurd came over and I informed him of the situation. Neither he nor the cashier did ANYTHING about this. Ok wait sorry, the security guard GLARED at her. I finally let it go because I felt my tempature start to rise and I didn't want to do anything foolish at least having my children with me. I am a 24 year Military wife with 2 small children and the fact that nothing was said to this women was BEYOND me. I think I speak for everyone who was in that line that the lake of authority was horrid. You better BELIEVE that I will be calling today to file a complaint so that she doesn't happen to someone else.

I understand working in retail because I have. No matter how overworked I was and underappreciated I did my job. For every bad customer there is a good one. Bad service is no excuse. If you dont like the management or customers find another job or suck it up. Ok my real complaint. I went into Ross in Florencehe Alabama at 9:15. I picked out 1 black dress, 1 blouse and 1 black jacket. Ok that is only 3 items. I walked back to the dressing room and a clothing rack was blocking the door. I asked a sale person to let me into the dressing room. She went to the front then I hear over the loud speaker a man announce the dressing rooms were closed. I looked at my watch and cellphone it was 9:30. The lady returned and told me the dressing rooms were clothes like I just didnt hear the guy say the same thing. I explained it was for a funeral and I would not be out the next day. She went to the check with the manager and told him I needed it for my mother's funeral and would not be out again before the funeral shopping. He told her loudly so I could hear. "NO the dressing room is closed. You all have to clean up. If it doesnt fit she can bring it back." I quickly said How about I dont get it and dont come back tomorrow or ever. Then I left the clothes and walked out the store. Ok I understand if it was 10 or 15 minutes to 10PM but it was 9:30!!!!! There were two workers doig nothing and only two were reshelving items from a buggy! that manager is a butt and I will never go back into Ross in Florence, AL.

I purchased a pair of shoes for my son at a location in San Diego Ca they ran to small, I paid for them with cash as I always do. but when I went to return them they less then 24 hours later, they wouldnt give me back my money without me giving my drivers lic info. I didn't like this nor did I understand it. I have had my information stolen befor so you can understand why im uncomfortable with this. But the staff is so disrespectful and they give very poor service at all San diego locations. And the managers blow you off. The El Cajon and Mission Valley store are the worst. All they want is for you to pay and go.... I am also very confussed as to why I am seeing so many people in the store with dogs. I have even seem a dog pee inside of a cart. I have spoken to the District mangager regarding this and all he did was make excuses for it. I work in a hospital and I know for a fact this is very un healthy to continue to expose the public to. Ross is not what they advertise them selves to be.. I will no longer shop there and i will also let my friends and co-workers know of this information. Im going to ask all my followers on Fcae Book to stop shopping there.. Just corporate greed!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The store located in ParkMeadows in Lone Tree, Co has trouble opening their doors on time recently I arrived at this store at 9:32 they supposedly open at 9:30 but 2 women in front of me entered the store through an open dooronly to be asked to leave because they weren't open yet?? I pulled on the door which they had locked again and when the 2 women inside looked at me I pointed to my watch and they laughed and moved to where we couldn't see them anymore. When they finally decided to unlock the doors at 9:38 I asked them if they open at 9:30 or not and they claimed they couldn't unlock the doors until the lights came on?? The lights were on?? This is not the first time I have benn left waiting to get in this store. I agree ther is a8 lacking of courtesy with the majority of Ross employees but there are some exceptions too such is one employee at the Highlands Ranch store his name is Lorne and he makes everyones day better such a nice young man!!! Wish they all were likeLorne he makes you want to come back!!

How untrue the statement "people will treat you as you treat them. I fully understand this message but in this case that rule does not apply to Ross. I am a simple, low key, smiling women who has been treated like trash by one of the managers and then again by the security women. I live in Kona Hawaii which is were Ross is. I do not get the mentality of the people working there, they are rude, obnoxious, hateful women, who have 0 class. I have worked in retail and now both of my daughters work for high end department stores. One of them said one day "she hated the people/customers but did she reflect this in her job, in fact she was employee of the month. The checkers/managers show the attitude of "I hate my job and hate dealing with people" I guess people are hired at Ross because they can not get a job in retail and Ross is the last resort therefore we get low class, rude, mean and very unhappy employees. I guess you get what you pay for so if you have the desire to go in to a Ross you will get bad attitudes, hating life, employees. I believe they are emulating what they see in management they are just mirroring what they see. Whenever I get good service with a smile I am the first in line to tell the manager what a wonderful employee he/she is, and I will also be there when I get bad service which is all I get from Ross. They are opening a Pier One Imports I cannot wait, I have not gone back to Ross since my problems with employees. I will never shop at Ross and I have quite a following of people who could not agree more. I see all the negative comments and it is not good for Ross but they don't care it shows in the way they do there job. I have left messages for the district manager here SHANNON WILSON, I filed a complaint and was told Shannon will get back to you, as of today have not heard from her, she is probably dealing with many complaints about the employees, Ross stores breeds this type of person to work in their stores. So the statement made earlier in this review "you treat them good they will treat you as well" bullshit, can all these people be wrong, I don't think so. GOODBYE ROSS, it has been horrible doing business with you, but never again!!!!!

If I were to rate this store from the customer perspective, I'd give it five stars. great finds and yes always great prices. But the employees pay the real price. I worked there for years, and was worked to a pulp. Every other emoployee felt the same way, we were treated like slaves and Ross HR was so used to our phone calls, they finally sent out a rep. but nothing really changed. The fact is, Ross KNOWS all their employees are over-worked. That's how they can keept he prices so low. The turnover rate for Ross stores is so high, and they know that when one person quites, another is there to replace them in most cases. I'm just glad I finally realized that there are better jobs out there and got out. Now when I shop at ross, I sometimes still see old friends who still work there, and I always think to myself... "you poor thing." Like any kind of abuse, ross employees are often belittled by their managment so much, that they don't even appriciate or realize theri own potential, and end up giving countless years to a store that will never recognize their efforts with anything more than a 20% discount. Just glad I was able to SEE THE LIGHT and now work somewhere much better with much better pay and appriciation. FEW!!!! did I luck out.

I don't usually shop at Ross because the Ross in our hometown is just too unmerchandized to suit me. I love getting deals, but shouldn't there be some in between place....not just slapping stuff on a shelf and pricing it. My sister gets great items there, but I just can't seem to even want to step in the store. It just isn't visually appealing...As far as rude associates...WHAT ASSOCIATES??? The store is barely staffed, and those poor workers! I can't even imagine all the things they have to accomplish in a days work. Overall, I just don't even bother to shop there because it isn't well merchandised and not that appealing...Lots of other low cost stores that actually do merchandise!

I live in Michigan, and would love to see Ross dress for less come to mich. I go to florida in the winter and really enjoy shopping in your stores. I hope to see you in the future. Thank you! Judy

This is an email I sent out to corporate. Hi, I was at a Ross in Austin, tx and had a dispute with the store manager. I asked to speak to his manager, and with some reluctance he finally gave me the contact info for the district manager. I have called her twice already, left messages, and got no response. In my opinion, and I'm sure a lot of other customers with similar situations would agree this is very poor customer service. What I wanted to address is their check policy. I had been to that particular Ross store many times this past year, and I had used my checkbook before when I had left my credit cards at home. My drivers license has been expired since sept. and I had no problem using my checkbook for a purchase well over 30 dollars. However, when I was hoping to purchase a sheet set for 20 dollars the store manager refused to accept my check because it was expired 4 months. My question was how does an expired license mean no money in the stated account. I also work in retail, and an expired license is only declined when determining eligibility for alcohol/tobacco products. When accepting a check as a method of payment the cashier must MATCH the name on the check to the name on the drivers license AND make sure the person in the license is the same person signing for the check. Not only was I upset that I could not use my check, but the store manager wasted my time by looking at my drivers license for quite a while, then writing the number down, and after all that he tells me it's expired. He could have looked for that from the start if it's so important. I felt like he particularly didn't care if he had wasted my time. This incident really changed the way I look at Ross. I used to love that store, but I will not be treated so unprofessionally. Thank you for your time in this matter, I would love to answer any questions that you may have regarding that store. Once again thank you

I was in the Austell GA store 1/27/12 looking around because I was on my break at work and decided to see if there were any Christmas mark Downs or good clearance items. Well about 10 minutes into looking around, loss prevention approached me and ask if he could help me find something. First of all, I'm a huge bargain shopper and I could easily see that this store carried a low inventory of product so I was having trouble finding anything that I would like. Long story short, I was embarrassed and decided to take my business somewhere else and promise myself to never shop at a Ross store ever again. PS. I understand that shoplifting if a serious problem but loss prevention also need to build a good case before approaching someone with obvious questions that a sales representative usually ask. Ross rules you people suck they keep cost down by not hiring alot of people so either deal with it or shop somewhere the prices are high because they have so many associates its easy to have customer service.Thats what you pay for and dont pay for at ross. Associates are rude because they are tired, overworked but the prices are low. Carts dont go out but the prices are low. Its messy but the prices are low. youre there cuz the prices are low. Its a small building that does more money than old navy pennies macys and most other retail store.Since they do that much business they keep the same amount of associates to turn a profit ans give you some discounts in return. Just turn youre head next time and keep that extra money in your pocket to buy yourselves something nice as a reward for not complaining. youll deserve it.

I was hired by ross as a loss prevntion specialist at the new niles store in chicago. during my interview i informed the district lp manager and the district superviser fhat i could work every day except sundays,i even wrote my avaiibilty on my app. they said thats fine you can have sundays off thats not a problem. after being hired i had to sign paper work(w2,health benefits, avalibilty sheet, etc)i put down my avalibilty again no problem. after working almost the store manager let me go. his reason was we need people to work on sundays we cant give you special days off i told him thats not what was discused during my interview as matter of fact you was not at any of my interviews. he said that they should have not agree,ed to that,im the store manager here i said yeah but there your boss.theyhave he last word. without going off i left. i feel that i was done wrong TOPHER i have an appointment with a lawyer next week to review my rights. they say an employer can let you go before your ninety days ar up, i can see for poor performance but letting you go after telling them your situation and they agree to it is like breech of contract. musicterry@yahoo.co

The store in Houston, Texas Meyerland store I don't recommend any one to work at the managers are rude. They don't train you everything you learn you learn on your own. The store manager act like she don't now anything thing she be so lost she is very rude. This Ross have a high turn over they need to do a lot better and get things together.

I was recently injured at the Ross located in Tyler, Tx. I went to the emergency room to get treated and did exactly what I was told to do. The manager told me that I would not have to pay a dime for any medical expenses. I recently got a bill showing that some of the bill was taken care of but not all of it. I have been calling corporate to get in touch with them so they could take care of the bill, and everytime I call they give me all these numbers to call instead of insisting me with this simple process. This company has TERRIBLE corporate offices!! UNPROFESSIONAL!! Ive taken it upon myself to contact the better business bureau and everything, I refuse to pay for anything when they careless employees dont choose to clean up the stores!
