I stopped by the Venice Blvd location in Los Angeles CA at around 5 pm today (4-21-11) in hopes of purchasing a Mother’s Day gift. Instead of finding the perfect gift I left the store extremely upset by the disrespectful comments and very poor customer service I received from multiple employees prompting me to write this letter of complaint. As I am a frequent Ross shopper I know that typically two prices are listed; one stating what the item could cost and the other the Ross price. I was prompted to request a price check on a designer purse that had a price displayed solely as $94.99. I simply wanted to know if that was accurate, which I didn’t think was an un-reasonably request during a time when the store was not busy. I approached a cashier behind the counter who rudely stated that the price was listed. I acknowledge that a price was printed but that I still just wanted to make sure. She crassly dismissed my request with a gesture of her hand as to shoo me away stating “I’m on my break”. Frustrated I walk over to another register, after having heard the conversation that has just transpired yet another cashier says, “the price is on the tag”. At this point I think to myself, what is so hard about performing a price check at the request of a customer? I then give the same explanation mentioned as to why I’m requesting a price check in a very displeased voice to which the women states “you don’t have to have an attitude” as she finally scans the item and another cashier mouths out loud “it’s going to be a long night”. I put the purse back and upon my exit I asked for the manager to which the security guard stated that the women who I was just speaking with, the person who caused me to leave the store feeling upset and un-appreciated as a customer was in management; Vinniey at store 414. I am a frequent Ross shopper who enjoys The Beverly Connection, Plaza La Cienega, and Brentwood locations. I don’t expect anything to come of this letter, I only write this for my own purposes as I continue to be bothered by the encounter. I was spoken to so rudely eliciting feelings of profound embarrassment and disrespect by this stores personnel. For my future purchases, I will likely never shop at this location nor would I recommend anyone else too.

The Ross store in Modesto #0677 treats their employees so inhumanly. The management is RACIST,disrespectful and play favoritism. The manage's name is Billy and hs is a coward,liar,racist,ADHD/bipolor son of a bitch. The management gangs up on employees and makes them feel bad for working there; its no wonder why so many of them hate Ross and talk about quiting. It is a negative unhealthy environment to work in and no one should feel that way at a workplace. It is racist and there is no divesity because there are only 2 African-Americans for the longest time working there and I have see discrimination in all forms. Even for promotions they are turned down; this does not include Ross in the Equal Employment Opportunity category.Ross does not care or show appreciation for its employees and who is crazy and sick to want to work for a company like this? I guess people will find out what Ross is really like once they set foot in this company. I guess mangers get their behaviors from corporate because they dont seem to care or take action on these situations either. They care about making money. But sooner or later what comes around goes around.

Informing managers of how rudely you are treated as a customer is a good thing, but it does not do anything because these managers do not care. They talk bad about customers after they leave and no action is taken. Calling corporate does not help either. What you need to do is telling the manage what you think of them and that Ross store. I know it is not professional, but Ross is not being professional either and you have the right as a customer to act in such a way when Ross managers and employees cannot and hopefully get fired if they do treat you in a disrespectful manner. So go ahead and tell them all the shit you know!!

The Ross managers Billy, Veronica, Sheya and Armen in Modesto at store #0677 are FAKES. They always put on an act for the distict manager Brad and customers(as the above comment also states). They make it seem like its a great place to work in when it is like hell to the employees. What the district manager and corporate should do is have interviews with the workers and see what is really happening and why it has become a negative environment. The employees are great people to work with but its the management that needs help with. It seem like all the Ross stores are like this. There is so much discrimination in all forms, favoritism in scheduling and disrespect towards the employees and its sad because action is not taken. I never wish for anyone to work at any Ross store because of the unhealthy negative environment. A person should never have to go through all the stress and discrimination for shitty $8/hr.

Ross is Awesome!!

This is an email I sent to the Ross customer service! Not sure what good it will do, but my family will not tolerate racism! "Hello, I am contacting you today because of a situation that happened in one of your stores. One of your workers followed us around the store as if we were young juveniles. My mother and I have never felt so uncomfortable while shopping. Everywhere we went in the store this man was right behind us. He even got a fellow co-worker(female) to watch us while in the underwear section. While we were waiting for my aunt by the dressing room, this guy was "helping" the woman that worked that part of the store. He turned his back to us, and we know he whispered something to the woman because right after, she peered around him to look at us. This happened several times with different workers. By this time we were confused and angry as to why they were acting this way towards us. So we decide it is time we check out and leave. As we walked towards the front, 3 different women followed us and walked to the front store security guard. All of them staring at us and speaking amongst themselves. At this time my aunt spoke up. She asked if there was a problem. One of the women replied with a no. My aunt new better and said, "We've noticed one of your workers have been following us around and we want you to know that makes us very uncomfortable." The lady then replied, "I'm sorry he made you feel that way, but he's doing his job to protect our assets." My aunt then said, "Well why is he only following us?" Her answer was "He does that sometimes." By this time I am furious. Not once have I had this problem in ANY store. Being accused of STEALING? We would NEVER do such a thing! I understand that they are just protecting the store and making sure that nothing gets stolen, but following a certain person(s) their whole stay in the store?? and may I also add that we were the only Native Americans in the store! I feel that is not right! We feel as if this guy only chose to "follow" us around because we are Native American. I will also say, we did not buy anything in your store. We left our cart and products we intended to buy in the cart and walked out of the store. I used to shop at Ross every week, but now thanks to this guy, we will not shop in your stores anymore, and we will be sure to let our family and friends know of this situation."

I work at the Ross in Hawaii & it is a very unhappy place. The only reason why I still work there is because of the people. The managers are awful but the store manager is the worse (lisa). Showing no professionalism nor respect to her employees as well as her other managers. They put an act in front of the District manager and customers. I've worked at Ross for about 2 years & I must say I really don't enjoy it. People need to know what's going on in the stock room 'behind closed doors' as well as the sale floor.

If I could rate the experience I had at Ross less than 1 star I would. The trenton store in mcallen Texas had a wait of over 2 hours. There were only 2 cashier open and about 50 customers in line.I sincerely believe something must be done. They should restructure stores checkout completely and have self check outs, this would expedite the process. Loss prevention is around and if they would do their job we could do without cashiers and this would save customers time and the company money. Corporate people are so stupid. Think people!

ross couldn't have come at a better time. because with other dept.stores closing, we need ross and you just can't beat their prices. you can shop for your entire family at ross.i wish you could open up a store in every other zip cod.

I attended the Ross store location 5248 S State Highway 360 in Grand Prairie Texas, store #1158. I was waiting patiently in line behind a customer that was returning an item. I notice the store only had two registers open. The lines began to fill up fast. One of the cashiers called for another cashier to come up front to open her register. Since I was next in line behind the one lady that was returning merchandise, I moved over to the cashier that had just opened her register. The cashier ignores me standing there and went to one of the other lines and pulled a Hispanic lady that was next in that line to pay for her merchandise. I told the cashier she must didn't see me standing here. She advised me she had to get the next customer in line. I told her I was the next customer in line, maybe not the line she chose to pull a customer from, but I was next in line at one of the other registers. Here comment was sorry I didn't see you and continued on with the Hispanic lady. She actually saw me because as she was going to open the other register I asked her which register number were she going to. I told her that she was rude and I asked to speak to her manager because I felt discriminated. Other customers in line behind me notice what had just happen. She responded with some smart comment so I politely told her to just ring my stuff up and I will find the manager myself. She replied I don't tell her what to do, she can multitask. Her name on the receipt is Blanca assoc#109965. Blanca was not only rude to me, but I felt discriminated because I'm black. The date of this incident was 4/7/11, 7:01 pm. If someone from the corporate office reads this, I would love for them to pull the video tape at this store location and see how this cashier treated me. I spoke with the manager and he said he would talk with her. After leaving the store, I was approached by another black couple that had witness this incident and they stated that she had done this before in the past. I live not far from this store and I'm a dedicated person. From this experience, I will no longer shop at this Ross store again.

I have never had a problem here in Santa Rosa, Ca. Ross, the customer service is always very good and the store is always clean. I am responding to the post from Tammy Amuan dated 7/10. If you want someone to hang the clothes back on the hanger for you and since you think you are such a princess I would suggest you make an appointment at a high end department store where it is just you and a personal associate. Are you kidding me? If there was no associate out to take the clothes from you that you did not want when you exit out the dressing room, are you the slob that either throws them over a rack or leave them on the floor? You walked in with them on a hanger and since you don't want them then hang them back on the hanger. The employees that work there are not your personal maid to clean up after you. They are there to count how many items you have and then put them back on the rack. You are the kind of person that makes a store look like garbage and if they were smart they would ban you from their store. I doubt they would miss your contribution or anyone who associates with someone as ignorant as yourself.

I JUST HAVE TO SAY , THAT I WILL NEVER SHOP AT THE ROSS STORE IN LAFAYETTE, ON LOUISIANA AVE, I WAS IN THERE ON TUESDAY , MARCH 15TH ,2011, IN A LINE OF ABOUT 20 PEOPLE WITH BUGGY'S FULL, WITH ONLY 3 ITEMS IN MY HANDS. WHEN THEY DID OPEN UP THE SECOND REGISTER , AND CALLED OUT THE NEXT PERSON IN LINE, AN OLDER WOMEN IN FRONT OF ME TOLD ME TO GO AHEAD, AND A BLACK WOMEN WHO CUT IN FRONT OF ME WITH A BUGGY FULL SAID SHE WAS WAITING ON SOMEONE ELSE TO CHECK OUT, SO I WENT AHEAD OF THE 2 OF THEM. WHEN I HEARD THE LOSS PREVENTION MAN SCREAMING AT ME TO GET IN BACK OF THE LINE THAT I HAD CUT IN FRONT OF THEM, WHEN HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. I THINK HE SHOULD BE WATCHING THE PEOPLE STEALING IN THE STORE WHICH IS HIS JOB , INSTEAD OF TRYING TO ACT LIKE HE OWNS THE STORE, I WAS ONLY TRYING TO GET CHECKED OUT BEFORE 5:00 BY STANDING IN A LONG LINE, WITH ONLY 3 ITEMS, EVERY OTHER STORE HAS A EXPRESS CHECK OUT, MAYBE THEY SHOULD THINK ABOUT THAT HAVING ONE ALSO. THE LOSS PREVENTION GUY IS HAROLD DURESSOURELLE, AND HE SHOULD BE GLAD I AM A NICE PERSON , OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE EMBARRASSED HIM LIKE HE EMBARRASSED ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your upper management staff in the Raleigh nc area stores is horrible. The person that I was told was a district manager was rude to the staff and management team. How can you expect good customer service when this bald headed man is standing on a sales floor screaming at staff members. I personally would have walked out on him. I will never shop in your store again because I used to work retail and I do not think that you lead by intimidation. Your staff that catches flack from customers should at least be afforded some dignity by your company. This is not the first time I have been in one of your stores and seen this man act like a blooming idiot but I have also notice the turn over in your area stores. Do you as a corporation really think that all is well with this man if people you have had in place for years are suddenly gone. That speaks volumes to us as the consumer. One day I was in one of your stores and he was talking to a worker about an incident that involved a manager (apparently female) feeling on another employee. Do you as a company feel this is something for him to be discussing in front of your customers? He is crude, disrespectful and I will never shop in there.Your standards as a company have really lowered in the last few years if this is what you employ.

I trully feel Ross's or any store or establishment should hire legal citizens who speak English. I'm positive that there are qualified legal English speakers to hire.

Stores are horrible no regards for employee .

Ross Is a pitty pice of shit of a company in my opinion there customer service sucks SUCks i say medford ROSS can go to hell

Why are all the shelves so empty? Where is all the mercandise?? In clackamass Oregon there was actually several empty moveable shelves upfront and very sparse if not empty shelves. I actually asked an employeee if the store was closing. At the new store in Eastport Plaza in Oregon the shelves are sparse and in Longview washington the shelves are getting thin if not sparse as well.. One of the checkers told me the warehouse dose not have very much inventory. Why? Is Ross going bankrupt? This is one of my favorite stores so I hope not....
