I would not even give GMAC 1 star at this point. My parent's had the house built from the ground up and had it as a homestead. My daddy passed away in March 2006, in which my mom was (still is) having financial troubles, she was making timely payments in fact my parents had put their mortgage to paying every 2 weeks to pay the house off in 15 yrs. rather than 30 years, they were never late - almost 17 years of paying on time (they had put the payments to every 2 weeks in about 2004), but never late not one payment. My mom lost her job in Feb. 2008, she has her brother that has downsyndrome living with her, he was working and had the same job for ten years, he too became unemployed - she fell behind on the payments. She was able to get a loan modifications with GMAC which lowered her payments to about $800 p.month - that was GREAT!! We were very happy that GMAC reduced the payments and extended the loan back to a 30 year payout. The problem being that my mom was getting a contract from one city that she had signed - and then she gets this other contract from GMAC from another city and on that contract - for some reason they had my dad's name on there as well as having his name incorrect. My mom had already made one payment according to the new loan modification and she gets this other contract in the mail from another office of GMAC - she simply sent it back with a note stating that this was not correct, that my dad is deceased and his name was not even correct - so how would my dead dad sign a contract and even if he were alive he would not have signed as the name was incorrect. So, she sends that contract back - it now comes time to make her 2nd payment according to the new loan modification - she called to pay over the phone directly to GMAC, she spoke to a representative who said for her not to make any such payment as she was in loss mitigation and do not pay again, just sit tight and within the next month or so she would be given a new contract - she got the persons name whom she spoke to - who told her - in fact he would not take the payment - but he told her - not to worry all was okay, no need to pay and just sit tight. So that is what she did, yes she heard from GMAC again - Stating that my mom did not agree to the contract the loan modification contract that they sent to her and she was in default once again and facing foreclosure on her house. My mom tried to explain what happened, GMAC simply told her to fill out the paperwork again, this time when GMAC "worked" with her, they put her payments at $2,000 p/month to be paid of in 9 years (as that was what was left of the 15 years she had 9 years remaining) - they would not allow it to be extended to the 30 year loan again - EVEN though it was GMAC's error clearly - as two different offices in two different cities, states were sending my mom loan modification contracts - she had already signed one contract and then gets that one that had my deceased dad listed and had his name WRONG - she simply was trying to let GMAC know that there was not anyway for my dad to sign as he was deceased and by the way GMAC didn't even get my dad's name correct - so she returned it. There was no way that my mom could pay that amount as she lost her job, my uncle lost his job, I moved from my home with my husband and my daughter to try and help with her finances but I lost my job and my husband ended up in the hospital with a rare cancerous tumor that had to be removed, he was having radiation treatments and was very ill and ran down and was not working very much (still not able to do as much) - My mom called one of those attorneys that say that they can stop foreclosures, etc...she did not sign up with the attorney until he had seen her contract and told him all that happened with GMAC - they told her they could help her but not at the very moment as she was not considered in default yet with GMAC (as my mom being naive signed that contract obligating her to the $2,000 p/month and she had to make a payment immediatley upon signing.) So at the advise of this attorney she went in default with GMAC in order to be able to do another loan modification so she thought as the attorney told her not a problem it could be done. Well, actually my mom finds out that the attorney was wrong, he was "sorry and gave her 1/2 of her money back) but he could not help her after all, GMAC was it's own bank and they can do whatever they want, and come to find out after all - my mom would need to have had that contract current for at least one year before able to do anything at all." My mom was absolutely floored, that was why she didn't sign on with them at first - in the first place, that is why she faxed over the contract for the attorney to review to make sure that if she went with that attorney he would REALLY be able to help her, he said "oh, yes I can help you" LIAR!!! So great he was sorry, but now my mom is defaulted with GMAC again due to that attorney's advise and all he could do was say "oops sorry" - Needless to say, GMAC of course would not foreclose if my mom could pay back all the back payments, but all is so far gone she needs like $15 - 20,000 to get current NOW. So she tries to see if she files bankruptcy will that help her....guess what, she can file bankruptcy but now she would need to pay $2575.00 p/month for five years - WHAT? That is just for the house, no other expenses...My mom has been really screwed by GMAC and that attorney but mostly GMAC - as the mouth seems to poop and the ass seems to speak with them!! It is like the head doesn't know what the ass is doing!! Now my mother is facing this loss and can't get ANYONE with GMAC who really has any authority as all GMAC does is outsource to people at home and train them for very basic scripted answers this is a major corporation? Does anyone have any suggestion that may help my mom to keep her home? This is not her fault as GMAC sent out two contracts, one from one city and state, and then another from another city and state, my mom has proof of all of the above events - has the person's name that told her - the person working for GMAC - that told her when trying to make that 2nd $800 payment - he would NOT take the payment and to sit tight as my mom was okay, just wait to hear again from GMAC in the next couple of months - YEAH? HELP please!

I was behind by almost 3 payments, which I made up when I received my Tax Refund, so all was current. They went ahead and paid my taxes, approximately $2500) , which I normally pay. As soon as I received the tax receipts, I contacted them to discuss what needs to be done regarding paying back the taxes. I also contacted the HOPE hotline, and they had a 3 way call regarding my financial issues. GMAC suggested a loan modification,and stated they had no record that my taxes had been paid by them, and SPECIFICALLY stated that the load mod pymt would not exceed 31% of my income. I supplied all necessary documentation several times, and then I received a statement from GMAC telling me to pay $3,847.10 by June 1st, and my new payment amount would be $969.23 (Original payment is $671.14), otherwise if they do not recieve the $3+K, my new payment would be $1290 per month...I was DENIED my loan mod. due to "insufficient income"...So tell me why they can't reduce my payment but yet they can almost double it. I had claimed bankruptcy 2+ years ago, and I basically told them that if they don't want to work with me, I am not working with them, and they told me there's nothing they can do. I told them that I will not make any more payments, it can go into foreclosure, and since I didn't reaffirm the debt, they won't get the difference...When they asked if I could come up with more income, I told them I am a state employee with a contracted rate, and that I did not have a MONEY tree growing in the back yard! I am contacting the Attorney General's office today....will keep you posted!

Been on the merry-go-round for almost a year with this company. Been divorced and am trying to get my name off mortgage loan - I was told by GMAC they would not discharge in a bankruptcy - ex had to do an assumption. Ex has tried to do an assumption- GMAC said they won't do the assumption because he has now rented out house, they said MAYBE I should try bankruptcy- they MIGHT discharge me. Neither of us were told he couldn't rent it and do the assumption, we have both been told so many different things by different people it's ridiculous. A Supervisor told ex today that she had no advice for him on what to do. This is a mortgage that is CURRENT and has been paid on time every month for 7 years now - we just want to get my name off loan as I gave him the house - they are completely unagreeable and rude to work with. With the amount of foreclosures and delinquent loans out there you would think they'd be jumping for joy to help us and save a paying customer. The next option is for us to say screw you and walk away and let them take yet another foreclosure hit. There is no logical to their unwillingness to work with us. Will tell anyone and everyone NEVER to use GMAC or any affiliates such as ALLY or Ditech.

Is there a negative number of stars? I am beyond angry at how GMAC treats struggling Americans. My family home is now lost to foreclosure due to four denied loan modifications. I realized that GMAC very rarely approves loan modifications, but they tell everyone that is struggling to go ahead and file!! In September I was offered a 2 month forbearance and we were struggling due to loss of income. Then we were told we had to pay those missed months at the end of the year. At the time we did not have the money so I did 4 loan modifications that were all denied. We now have sufficient income and good paying jobs, which would allow us to afford our house. I attempted over 50 times to contact someone and never was able to reach anyone other than a rep reading from a computer. I am confident many of our loan documents were illegally signed and falsified. I do not even know why they want our home, we are upside down 50K. I have always heard how willing lenders are to help struggling americans stay in their home, but not GMAC. I just do understand what is wrong with GMAC.

Unforunately, I have a mortgage with GMAC. Due to a death in the family and financial harships, I fell behind and looked to my mortgage provider for help. All I received was bad customer service from a phone operator by the name of Marie who kept reading a script and refused to listen to what my concerns were. After several minutes getting no where, I requested to speak to a supervisor. After my request, this operator became very rude by repeatedly putting me on hold while speaking. Shame on GMAC for treating their customers with such disrespect and bad service.

Raised my entire life in Flint, Michigan (home of General Motors) and then honorably served & defended my country for 21 years in the United States Navy. Retired 8 years ago and moved down to Florida for what I envisioned would be my dream. Bought a nice home here with a pool, etc. and thought I had made the grade. I am currently 49 years old and have suffered 3 heart attacks in the past 3 years, along with cardiac arrest and sudden death (our Paramedic heroes revived me after 8 minutes of leaving this world). Have lost my job. Can't keep on top of all my payments for the first time in my life. My ex-wife (divorced 11 years ago) decided to arbitrarily kidnap my 13 year old daughter and, nine months later, the State of Florida has done absolutely NOTHING to her and the inept and hypocritical judicial system "rewards" her for her lawless acts as well. I have lost my daughter, my job, much of my health, my faith in any hope of judicial fairness and justice (which I busted my ass for 21 years defending the blanket of freedom in this country), and now I'm losing my home. My dream has been shattered and I even approached GMAC "EARLY" in the game to get quick assistance to avoid this nightmare. Guess what? They don't care, period. Absolutely are incapable of compassion, fairness, cooperation or just being a stand-up company. Don't expect Jack Diddly Squat from this spineless, callous, and evil company. The entire corporation is riddled with incompetents that cannot and will not be able to help you. Nobody is empowered to make things happen and their customer service (or shall we say complete lack of) is the worst ever. I'd rather be patched over to the guy on the TV commercials named "Peggy" who either hangs up on me or puts me on indefinite hold than to ever deal with these crooks and legal mercenaries again. Run from them and don't give them one precious second of your important time - they truly DO NOT CARE! I'm having to walk away from my home because they refuse to make anything work for me. I honestly believe that they prey on the weak, weary, ill, handicapped, and vulnerable citizens. They want to get RICHER off of our unfortunate circumstances and situations. They are worst than Rose was on Titanic (floating on that huge door in the cold Atlantic Ocean after the ship sank and she should have pulled Jack onto the door with her.... but NOOOOOOOO!). GMAC is not clever, smart nor organized - they are merely PREDATORS! My advice to any of you (especially going through this nightmare with my medical condition and strong resolve) is just save your time because they are NOT here to help you or to assist you! Shame on GMAC and all of the other EVIL EMPIRES that have destroyed this once great nation. Your greed will be the end of us all in the end... WORST COMPANY EVER !!!!! NO REAL HUMANS WORK HERE

In 2 years my mortgagae has increased by $900, they admitted a mistake at first and had to increase, now it is increasing again!!! And it is more than an increase in taxes. Needless to say, this is the last time I take out a mortgage with this company.

GMAC MORTGAGE ( STINKS ) MY WIFE & I HAVE CALL THEM SINCE DECEMBER AND IT IS NOW MARCH 11. WE HAVE SENT PAPER WORK TO THEM OVER & OVER AGAIN AND NEVER A CALL BACK OR A LETTER FROM THEM. WE HAVE HAD OUR MORTGAGE WITH THEM FOR 5 YEARS & PAID THEM OVER $66,000.00 & NEVER MIST A PAYMENT. AND AS NOW WE HAVE NOT SEEN OR TALK TO A REAL PERSON. WE ARE RETIRED & 69YEARS OLD ON SS INCOME.THEY JUST RAISED OUR MORTGAGE $265.00 A MONTH & NEVER EVEN SENT US A NOTICE FIRST OR CALLED. ? IS THIS HOW THEY STEAL HOMES. THEY UP YOUR MORTGAGE SO YOU CANT PAY. IS THIS AMERICA.I HOPE THEY SLEEP TONIGHT, BECAUSE MY WIFE & I CAN'T. THIS IS A BAD COMPANY BUT WHAT DO OLD PEOPLE DO.

There is alot of money being wasted there. They pay these people to call u and want or remind u of payment after going through assortment of questions they already have the answers too.They send u mail same crap. Waste of alot of money in wages , paper,stamps . My agreement says not late until 15 days , then theres a late fee ,but it doesnt affect nothing till 30 . So at very most give me till the late fee to be calling and mailing shit too me .

After talking to someone in India for 20 mins, I finally get a rude American woman who promises to send me my title in 4-5 weeks, it's now been 10 weeks, and still no release of lien, and no title. I can't even sell my car. ALLY/GMAC you suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dealings with gmac was a horror! The run-around you get from "customer service" has to be part of the training program. Seven different people gave me seven different answers...When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was promised they would call me back. Well, I'm still waiting. I would NEVER NEVER recommend gmac to anyone - not even my worst enemy!

Husband had cancer so we fell behind when he had surgery. At first they were helpful but after falling behind (1 month) after 2nd surgery, and trying to get back on track, we contacted them for a loan modification. We were denied because we had "insufficient income" to pay the LOWER payment, yet it is sufficient enough for us to keep paying the HIGHER payment amount. Our tax dollars bailed them out yet they are not willing to help anyone out. The rep couldn't explain the stupid reason for denying the modification!

I have made at least a dozen phone calls regarding our impounded fire insurance. They have paid it three times in a year. Not all there fault as a transition of agents. But what part of don't pay the fire insurance until re get this resolved don't they understand. Every time you call no one knows what is going on so you get to repeat the problem every time! Ridiculous!

According to my knowledge it's very poor . I have never seen such a company in my lifetime. Look before you leep . That's it Regards Raja

GMAC wow what a joke, none of them speak english and they will not help you if they could. I asked for a American representative and we told that there was no American representatives and if I wasnt going to talk to them I could go F*ck myself. Wow this is service or what. Although they had no problems taking the money to bail themselves out. I am tired of living on my Veterans disability pay and still not being about to modify my mortagage. I am at 7.75 and cant get anyhelp help to lower it. Lost my wife in February and had to add all her medical bills to a lien on the house which came out to 40,000 usd at 7.75 well never get it all paid down. They will do nothing to help me, when you call GMAC dont expect any Americans to help you. They stopped that last year. I am tempted to just walk away from this house and let GMAC bite my rear end.

Interesting website. I had an issue this month where some expected income was delayed causing me a brief hardship. When deciding what to do, I contemplated my options of either paying one late charge on my mortgage or going ahead and paying my mortgage and then paying three late charges on other accounts all totaling more than the late charge on my mortgage. I opted on waiting on my mtg pmt trying to save a little bit of money. I was proactive and e-mailed GMAC to let them know the exact date that the payment would be received (and when ahead and scheduled the paymet on thier website to post on the day that I had promised). I later received an e-mail indicating that my account would be noted--thanking me for giving them notice. It hasn't even gotten to the late charge date yet and GMAC has called my house three times, once leaving am automated message for me to call them with the plans for making the payment. So much for being practive. This struck me funny since many of you have said that you can't get them on the phone....

I was fotunate enough to pay my remaining mortgage off that I owed them and now I can't even get a letter signed (by a person with a titlte/position) from them. THEY SUCK ASS!!!!! I wouldn't finance a piece of bubble gum with them. And they also need people that can speak the english language ,At least somewhat, to talk to their customers. Yours truly, A VERY PISSED OFF AMERICAN THAT SERVED THIS COUNTRY FFOR 25 YEARS!!!

GMAC has bounced me around for 2 years, denied mod. accepted reduced payments for 3 months,all made on time ,,send 4th payment back, then denied mod again. 4 months later they send out person to take photos to allow short sale, we get a buyer, months go by and our realtor is told wait till next week for final approval. 2 months later we get a new guy asking for the whole package to be refaxed to him, the whole file was on equater,their fax program,,,,,sale date in a few days. Slippery company, seems everything they do is a lie or fraud. CA attorney general needs to look into their practices. If I made claims and promises and broke them i would be sued for fraud,,,,how are they able to get away with fraud?

Tara - What ever came of your altered tax documents? They did the same thing to me. They altered the form with white out. Specifically the date I signed it has been changed from the form I sent them to the copy I recieved back from the IRS. The strangest thing, is there was no reason to change the date. They appharently submitted the form in time. They must have known that ALTERING THE FORM (FRAUDULANTLY) would result in the form being denied. The only thing I can fathom is that they did it purposely to stall the modification. Nothing else makes sense.
