We stopped at a Frish's Big Boy in Kentucky while on a road trip a couple of days ago. We live in Michigan where Big Boy is Elisha Brothers. I thought despite the name difference all Big Boys offered the same dishes. Apparently not. I ordered a Big Boy sandwich, expecting to get the same thing I get in Michigan - a double decker hamburger with Big Boy sauce (similar to Thousand Island dressing). I got a double decker hamburger with tartar sauce! (eewww!) When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said that's what their Big Boy sauce is there. What gives? Big Boy sauce on a Big Boy sandwich is what you're famous for - not tartar sauce! I was so disappointed, I didn't even order desert!

Hi I am from Florida and my first time eating at a Big Boys was needless to say disappointing. Food was amazing but it was the service that was not right. I ordered the original double decker big boy combination with the salad bar. That was the warmest coleslaw I have ever had in my life. My waitress, Helda, was very rude to me. The chairs were dirty and disgusting, flies were swarming around my food, the place smelled like a dirty old mop. I will not be returning.

What has happened to Big Boy? I've grown up with this restuarant and I have to say I've finally thrown in the towel. The lastest (and I keep giving them-store #31 at Zeeb and I-94 a second and third chance)disaster took place last night 6/24/10 when after a long and tiring day I went with a friend for a Big Boy combination and they ordered fish and chips. The fish and chips was 2 pieces of dark brown fish, no fries. When asked about the fries, she said "you didn't ask for fries"...I guess the definition of fish and chips has changed! The Big Boy combo came as a sandwich on a plate, no fries...again the very young staff said "you didn't ask for fries"! I tried to explain to both the staff and manager who were both clueless over my complaint. Good grief, who has the energy to teach the staff what their own menu says?On a previous Friday visit I had a staff "inform" me with a very snippy attitude that they don't have a seafood bar they have a "fish bar"-OMG! My multiple trips and attempts at a quiet meal are often interrupted by managers yelling and screaming at employees in front of customers or so loud from the back grill that the whole place can hear every word, it bordered on abusive and I can't imagine why any young person would subject themselves to it and why a company would have this type of individual in a management role. So, the towel is in, no more Big Boy after 48 years...sad but true. This was a great restaurant before corporate took charge... now no one wants to eat there.

Hello, On June 14th, I went to the Big Boy on the corner of US 23 and Plymouth Road only to find out that the Swiss Miss and the Brawny Lad were removed from the menu. Now, with that being said, I was able to get a Swiss Miss by asking the waitress, but why, why, would you do a thing like this unless you really want to go out of business--and quickly. The economy is bad enough. This is not a time to be removing your best staple products off the menu. It is like a self fulfilling prophecy to remove these items and to start to go out of business. I will NOT return to Big Boy if these items are no longer available. They are the ONLY reason I keep coming back. Also, I have been complaining about the fries for months now and the local Ansara Big Boy in Livonia claims that the new fries are more expensive!?!? Bring back the cheaper and better fries. Also, the meat patties at all 3 local Ansara Big Boys (Livonia, Novi, Westland) have gotten much smaller. Keep this up and I won't be going back and neither will my friends that join me there.

Hate your new commercials! I won't eat at a Big Boy because of these stupid commercials!

To whom it may concern: I personally believe that the closing of the 9 Mile and Jefferson Big Boy location was a travesty because you had one of the best stores around for training and community gathering place and it was destroyed due to the lack of compentant leadership and knowledgeable staff. After several leadership changes and some staff replacements over a period of time still caused the decline of the loyalty and confidence of this community. It was recently reported in the Macomb Daily that the reason for the store closure was due to the fact of a rental dispute on the property on which the store was located. This infact is a perveracation of the truth. The employees' were lied to and forced to seek life elsewhere and in this economy that in it self is a travesty. How do you expect to get away with this crime? I believe the employees' should engage in a class action lawsuit against Big Boy Restaurant International LLC. How do you expect the public to trust you again? In this day and age word of mouth makes or breaks businesses'

This is regard to the Big Boy on Rochester Road. Most of the servers are ok, but the management is horrible. They look like kids. They are never out on the floor when needed. There is no one out front to help. THis is a busy store at time and I am appalled at the way it is run. The management seems to care more about the back of the house than the front. I worked at Big Boy's for many years and had wonderful management. What happened? I used to go to the Royal Oak Big Boy in high school (cruising and eating). And the manager was always out front. I am so terribly disappointed.

I don't go "out" to eat often but, it's my birthday this week and yesterday (June 13, 2010) I chose Big Boy for my Birthday meal (Big Boy on Pearl Street in Grand Rapids, MI). They weren't busy and I was looking forward to my favorite meal there (Multi-grain pancakes). My friends side salad arrived first...very hard bitter chunks of lettuce, one pink and hard tomato slice and a discolored cucumber slice. The blue cheese dressing was fabulous (cause they had nothing to do with it). The waitress came to the table to see how the meal was and she was told the salad was awful...her reply..."yah, the side salads are sad, I'll take that away for you." My pancakes arrived very dark brown with a slight taste of burn and a beautiful golden brown on the other. Generally, strawberries and blueberries were sprinkles across the top of them but, not today. Today, there was a total of two strawberries cut in half and a small cup on the side with about 8 blueberries in it. My friend ordered a Slim Jim (we always order the same things at this Big Boy because they've always been fabulous). Her sandwich arrived as my pancakes did, way over done. The French Fries were dark brown. The waitress came back to the table and since most of the food was still sitting on the table (we picked at it a bit but, wouldn't eat it) she asked if we were finished. We told her that all the food was over done and couldn't be eaten. She replied, "I could bring you some more fries." Shocked by that reply we said "no, we're done." She politely said, "ok, I'll be right back with your check." What has happened to good food and customer service? well, I've got another year to find a new restaurant out there for my Birthday meal. The Big Boy Era has ended; I won't be back and neither will anyone that I know.

Recently visited the Big Boy on the corner of Sprinkle and Gull Road in Kalamazoo, Mi. I believe it is Bobs Big Boy. While having lunch I overheard the manager tell my wiatress to clock out. It was 3:30PM. She replied that she was scheduled until 4:00PM and she still had a fairly new customer at a table. He did not care and told her to do what he told her to do. Since when do we work for an employer for free? I don't care if she does only make a couple bucks an hour. To single moms with kids two bucks is two bucks! And on top of that I was told from an ex-employee from there and had a employee confirm that.....if a Manager helps out with a table because he feels she needs the help that the Manager makes the waitresses split the tip! This is just wrong!!!! Waitresses do not make Manager Salarys! Looking at these testimonials I would say you need to start sending out Corporate to these Franchises and make sure they are applying to your Franchise rules. Needless to say I left without keeping my mouth shut and gave a piece of my mind. If I were that waitress as I told her...you could make more money on down the road at McDonalds and even get help to go back to school. What does this Big Boy have to offer you other than headaches! I hope this is looked into.

My husband and I have eaten at the Big Boy Restaurant in Jackson Michigan numerous times, but after our last visit on 6/8/2010, I am sure we will never dine there again. We entered the restaurant at 5:45 pm and the restaurant was quite empty which my husband and I thought was a good sign. My husband ordered the soup/salad bar and I ordered a breakfast meal with eggs, juice, potatoes, sausage, etc. First of all, we noticed that the restaurant was very dirty. Food all over the floors, and the salad bar was a mess. The soups were dried up and many items were missing from the bar. We ordered our meals at 6:00pm and my husband had to wait for the waitress to return to our table 15 minutes later at which time he had to ask for silverware and napkins. The waitress just laughed and returned with his silverware. I don't think it is kind to pick the waitress apart, but her uniform was filthy, he hair was greasy and very unkempt, and she only had a couple of teeth with many others rotted in her mouth. Her appearance was very unappetizing to both my husband and myself. The waitress did come back to the table once or twice asking my husband if he needed anything else, however, I still hadn't received my meal. Her reply, "it will be just a couple of more minutes..." At 6:45pm, 45 minutes later, I told her to please bring our bill and cancel my order. Her reply "You don't want to eat? It should only be a couple more minutes." I told her no thank you, and that I didn't feel it was reasonable to wait 45 minutes for a couple of eggs and to just bring our bill. About 5 minutes later, the Manager(I assume, as she did not identify herself) came to the table and rambled something about my order getting lost due to some tape running out. It seems to me that during that 45 minutes SOMEBODY would have realized there was a problem with the order. She then told me if I wanted to wait a little longer, she would make sure the cooks would prepare my meal. Again, I told her no thanks, and we left. What a fiasco. The reason I am informing you of this is because, if this type of service continues, you will lose more than just our business. Hopefully you will be able to to correct these numerous issues and the Jackson Big Boy will be a favorable restaurant again. Please feel free to contact me if you wish. Thank you for letting me vent. Sincerely, Monica Booth 1109 Herbert J Ave Jackson, Michigan 49202 517-392-5836

I have been going to big boys since the 60's and have to say I am very disappointed with your current menu. What did you do with the Swiss Miss and the Branwny Lad??? The french fries are the worst things I ever tasted in my life......do us a favor in Michigan and don't mess with perfection.....the service is alway good @ the st.clair shores location but we don't visit the restaurant becasue of your "new" menu.......

We went to the Big Boy in Kalkaska, Mi on 6/1/2010 for lunch. We both ordered the battered and fried cod fillets an extra piece for both of us also. When we got our cod and onion rings we were still eating our salad. I looked at the cod and knew it was overcooked because it was VERY dark and there was a pool of something running out from under it. I placed my finger in it to see what it was and it was oil. A very large amount covered at least 3/4 of the platter! I brought this to the attention to the server and she just swapped out our plates. The onion rings were cold and the tarter sauce tasted like it was just mayonnaise. The fillets when broken into, would just run with oil. and better than 1/4 of the fillets were hard and not white and flaky like fish is supposed to be. Needless to say, we will NOT return to this restaurant. The meal cost us nearly $32.00 for 2 people and it was definitely NOT worth it!

On Monday, May 31, 2010 (Memorial Day), we went to Big Boy in South Haven, Michigan to order our usual $3.99 Blockbuster Breakfast (which is offered Monday thru Friday). We were informed because it was a holiday, this was not available. Nowhere on the menu did it state that this was not available. Is this your policy. Thank you.

Unfortunately I was unable to find any site to CONTACT you when I tried to Google Big Boy, so I would like to use this site to forward a little complaint. Although your new Big Boy in Rochester (corner of Tienken and Rochester Road) certainly deserves a good rating, I'm a little upset about the following : On television Big Boy has been advertising the "Blockbuster Breakfast" (from Monday through Friday) for $3.99. Well I went there last Friday and they do NOT participate in this special deal. Why advertise it on TV when some of your franchises don't participate in it ! To me this is FALSE advertisement !! I used to go to this particular Big Boy a lot since it's well run, clean and the food is good, but when something like this happens, I stay away from these businesses that do not follow through on these advertisements. There are many more good restaurants here in the Rochester area I can frequent ! Should you try to get hold of me to explain, my phone number is (248) 656-2243 (days) and my e-mail address is apache@talkamerica.net. Regards - Karin Sampson

Hello. Both of us work at Big Boy, on Zeeb Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Store #31). We would like to remain anonymous, but we have many things to address that are major problems at our store. Since the store has been reopened, the managers, who are in their early and late 20’s do not seem to have a clue on how to run the restaurant. Things are extremely unorganized, the work environment is stressful, and employees were not trained correctly. They continue working with horrible habits that aren’t being addressed by managers. The store in not clean and it’s impossible to run a smooth shift. We have had a total of three corporate supervisors come in and try to help “fix” and solve the problems at our store. We are making no profit. To this day, the store has not picked up in business. It wasn’t advertised for our reopening, customers coming in still think it is owned under the same management as before. We get an outstanding number of complaints about ticket times being too long, food proportions being too small, a limited menu, and servers that just don’t know what they are doing. Besides the normal server duties, we are responsible for: filling and maintaining the large salad bar, making desserts, seating the door, answering the phone, taking carry-outs, taking cash, and keeping up with our tables. This is impossible. Managers wonder why we get so many complaints. Many times we have no hostess, and the times we do have hostesses they are scheduled on a random evening when business is slow. Saturday nights we won’t have a hostess, and only one cook will be scheduled. There will be no bar attendant, and no person to do prep. Many employees have walked out due to the stressful conditions at work. Managers are constantly hiring, firing, and suspending employees. We are very understaffed and servers are worked over the amount that is healthy. Certain servers have worked double shifts for six days in a row. Without a break, or are scheduled closing shifts every single night of the week. Managers aren’t even required to work that much. Days that have been requested off months in advance are not being recognized. Servers and other employees who have school and other jobs are expected to work whatever hours are given to them. No questions asked. Everything is constantly changing. Nothing ever stays the same. Within the past few days our new supervisor brought up the idea of “server-banking.” I’m here to tell you that we already have problems with money. When the cash drawers are counted after each shift majority of the time we are short money. How would making servers in charge of money help fix this problem? Numerous servers on both shifts have decided that if this “server-banking” goes into effect that they will be looking for another job. No employee at this restaurant is being paid enough for all the work we are expected to do. We need help! We need Managers who know what they’re doing, more employees, and a better trained staff. I don’t know what will come from writing this letter, but these things needed to be brought to your attention. Thank you for your time.
