I rented a vehicle from Avis in Shreveport, LA on June 28, 2010 with a return date of July 7, 2010. While on the road I wondered why several vehicles were following me very closely and with todays world being what it is I didn't feel comfortable acknowledging their presence. Upon my arrival to my destination I finally figured out why the other drivers were following me so closely. The exhaust pipe had large pieces of rubber/plastic on the pipe and somehow caused the right rear bumper and other "plastic" parts underneath and around the bumper to melt which could have caused a fire due to the location of the gas tank. After much confusion I did receive another car but lost a day and an half of the use of the rental car for which I was charged for and when the vehicle was picked up it had gas in the tank that I was not credited for. Of course when you return the vehicle there is never any management available to speak to and when you leave messages they are never returned. Thank goodness I had the foresight to take pictures of all the damage and plan on going further with this issue. When I think of what could have happened if I had driven the vehicle further or if there had not been rain most of the trip!! I received better customer service from Toyota when I called over this vehicle than I did with Avis. Upon giving Toyota the VIN of the vehicle I found out it was on the recall list for another reason.

I have NEVER encountered an auto rental company who dealt in outright fraud and deceit as I just experienced the last two days with Budget. I had never used them before and it has been my experience over the last two days that Budget is the BP of the auto rental industry. I had to have my own car repaired and thus I needed a rental care for ONE day. I wanted a sub-compact or compact vehicle but was told at this city (suburban) location that the least expensive car they had immediately available was a convertible for $99.99. In addition I was told that 3 persons were ahead of me on a waiting list for an economy car thus they would get first preference when one did come in (no other customers were in the store). I turned to walk out and as I did the woman at the counter 'remembered' that they had a lower priced car for $69.99 for the day. I continued to walk towards the exit and all of a sudden the counter woman told me that she had great news because an economy Hyundai Accent was just being returned. I do not know where she got that info as no new car had driven in and she was not on a phone communicating with anyone who just would have advised her of that. She must have awesome telepathic powers. In any event I did take that car and it was just standing in the lot ready to go just as it had been when I first came in. I had also inquired of the woman if Budget was a member of Delta, American, or Continental's frequent flyer programs. She told me 'no, we are not involved with any airline's frequent flyer programs'. When I returned the car the next day I asked the exact same question of a different agent who was on duty that day. She told me 'No' and that Budget had opted to sever membership with any frequent flyer programs over a year earlier. Yet when I got home and checked on line both at Budget's site and the frequent flyer sites of the three airlines I mentioned I saw that Budget is a current participating member of all 3 programs. I was just incensed with the lies. Also when I returned the car she told me that their computer was down and that if I gave her my email address that she would email me the receipts just as soon as the computers came back up. So I left their office having NO paperwork nor proof of my rental for my credit card. To the very time I type this NOTHING has arrived. I tried calling their customer service this evening and it was closed. The ONLY office open was a reservations office where 3 persons whom I spoke to told me was in the US, one of them volunteering they were in Southern California (this was at 3am EST). EVERYONE I spoke too had very thick Hispanic accents almost to the point of not being understandable to a non-Spanish speaker as myself. On my third call I spoke to a very nice Hispanic gentleman whom I asked to be honest as to where he was located. He told me that he was in Mexico and that his office was the ONLY office open during the night hours. Apparently Budget actually instructs their employees to lie. I almost never write letters of complaint unless the service I receive is awful. Believe me, my whole Budget experience was indeed AWFUL.

The national customer service manager in Bogota Colombia was the worst ever. I wrote a complain at the AVIS customer service because we had to change vehicles every day due to the driving restriction in the country. Since I wrote the complain, she is making go around circles instead of helping us. All this week long I have to change vehicles at night, which complicates my travel plans not to include all the hastle I have to go thru since I am traveling with two small children. I guess she has never seen or read AVIS mission and vision, which is provide high quality customer service. BTW, US customer service hasn't contact me either, way the go AVIS.

We, too had a confirmed reservation more than 4 weeks in advance for a long distance move from NY to NC. As well, I called to confirm the reservation and was given an affirmative. The day of pick-up there were no trucks available at the specified location and worse, the person at this location had my reservation with contact number sitting on his desk and never bothered to call about the lack of trucks. When asked why he didn't contact us, he replied, "The company doesn't like us to call customers about no availability." We were instructed to call inventory; they returned our call 4 hours later offering a truck rental 3 days after we needed to be moved out. The inventory manager had no explanation nor offered any compensation for the lack of a truck and had no answer at all when asked about the purpose of reservation and confirmation numbers. Needless to say, we already had secured another truck from another company. We will never use this company again; they have no ethics, reliability, nor accountability.

The manager from the Avis division of the Phil. Airport has not responded to any phone calls or to my case number which is Case # 831-9416. I Have drafted a letter and would appreciate some one responsible to get back to be ideally the president of Avis as I have been a steady customer for over 35 years withuot an incident or complaint. My Wizard number is listed inthe complaint. Marty Gubb

Budget is the ABSOLUTE worst company we could have ever gone with. I am in the military and have recently been relocated. Budget has made it the worst move possible. My husband made a reservation for the largest moving truck and a dolly. He even called to confirm. It was not ready the day of the move, nor the next day. No one seemed to care about his predicament and when he asked about being reimbursed they were offering to allow him to go pick up a trailer an hr and a half away and attach the trailer himself. How is that a reimbursement? Finally, he got the truck and the trailer arrived in Jersey. When he went to drop it off. The trailer is stuck and roadside assistance has had him waiting for and hr and a half. The person that is currently there w my husband will not give him his name. He has asked him 3 times. What the hell is that about? I will NEVER ever use this company again. And whenever I have the opportunity to tell people how horrible this experience has been I definitely will. I wish I could rate you -5 stars.

I was recently at the airport in Chicago. I always have difficulty finding a car because of an allergy to the fragrance sprays used when they clean the cars and also the chemicals in the new cars. The manager J.Short was a great help and brought me several cars to check out to see if they would work. He did it with a wonderful spirit and a big smile. I left there with the right car and was a happy customer. Much thanks.

If you want to actually find the location where they run their financial business out of in Virginia Beach, VA, call 757 687 2040. Sure seems like they are going to intentional efforts to keep people from finding this number. Their telephone numbers on their web site are all deleted. Hmmmmm. Wonder what that says about the customer service of this company.

Sirs, I had a billing problem with a Avis car rental at your Miami Airport location. It was resolved by your Customer Service Manager, Ms. Dodi Henry, after Faxing her some documentation. She is a credit to your organization and it was a pleasure to deal with her. Respectfully, Mr. Frank Cario

I WILL never use them again! Customer service is awful! We had a tire FLY off our dolly, Budget had us sitting on the side of the road for 6 hours! Called the customer service number to ask for comp. and all they said they could do is give me 14.00 off the dolly rental!!!! AWFUL COMPANY!
